On line dating scams in the news

You may have read the Daily Mail’s article at the weekend, of yet another con man taking advantage of women in their 40’s and 50’s who were looking for love on an online website, this time Plenty More Fish. Posing as a very wealthy man, he went on to obtain their bank details before stealing from them and leaving them heartbroken.

It’s a story we see in the press almost every week and what particularly saddened me on this occasion, was the complete lack of sympathy for the women involved in some of the comments posted online. ‘No fool like an old fool’ etc. seemed to be the theme. Well I for one, have every sympathy for these ladies. I know that for the grace of God, there go I.

We may be level headed in business, we may have qualifications that demonstrate we have some intelligence, but just about everyone, man or woman, can fall for a fraudster when it comes to matters of the heart. Sometimes when we want something to be true our minds simply ignore all those alarm bells.

I and our other matchmakers here at Attractive Partners, speak so often to really genuine, lovely people who approach us having had a very bad experience through online dating. Not everyone wants to go to the press. Though some are brave enough to speak about it to warn others of the risks, many do not want this publicity and choose to write off the financial loss. So stories like this one probably represent just the tip of a very large iceberg.

Of course, this is not just about money. It can be devastating to have ventured back into the dating world to be hurt like this and I think that is why traditional dating agencies such as ours, where all members are ID verified and interviewed, are seeing such a resurgence of interest.

There are more single people than ever in the UK and especially for those over forty, there is a need for a safe and comfortable way of meeting other genuine, like-minded singles.

We don’t find it easy to meet other people who we know are single when we lead such busy lives and internet dating, although suggesting that there are other ways of connecting with people we may never meet otherwise, is not a secure environment.

If you are genuinely single and would like to meet others who could be a great new partner, speak to us today about how we can help safely, make that happen for you.
