If you are of a certain age you may remember the ‘Humpty Dumpty’ nursery rhyme from childhood. Humpty Dumpty had a great fall and fell off the wall, and he couldn’t be put back together again. This could also apply to trust. We call it ‘Trust and the Humpty Dumpty Effect’.
Trust is so vital to happiness in our lives. Every relationship should be built on a solid platform of trust, right? If you’ve ever been hurt and your trust has been broken through betrayal, lies, violence, infidelity or similar, you may have asked yourself ‘Can it ever be regained?’ Can things (or you) ever be the ‘same’ again? Or has broken trust tended to take over your thoughts and control your life decisions? Has it blocked you? Got in your own way of moving on?
Once trust is broken, there are definitely ways that we can at least try to regain it.
Time is a great healer for sure. Your ability to accept that difficult situations often occur to teach us something about ourselves as much as others might be contstrued as simply ‘positive thinking’ but there is wisdom in this as well.
Although trust and the Humpty Dumpty effect may always be there to remind us of past experiences, you shouldn’t let them define YOU, or your what’s going to happen in your FUTURE.
So as the song goes, pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and start all over again.
Have a great weekend,
